Great Home Exercise Equipment

Reiki cannot solve everything, we also must work with the energy and our bodies to attain fitness and wellness. In addition to Pilates and weight training, I encourage my clients to do cardiovascular exercise, typically in intervals or sprints. One should always remember that fitness is multi-dimensional and all aspects must be there for good health - strength, flexibility, and heart pumping.

Many of my clients like to walk or run on the treadmill, which great for leg strength and muscle tone. Expect to spend upwards of $1000 for a good treadmill, and Smooth Fitness makes a model that will actually fold up easily so it's not in the way all the time.

And don't forget accessories such as heart rate monitors and mats which will help protect you and your investment. Smooth Fitness makes reasonably priced club quality cardio equipment incorporating the latest technology.

A Reiki Attunement Testimonial

Healing appeared to be only in the hands of a gifted few and therefore unattainable by most of us, so I thought. However, thanks to Lynda Lippin's Reiki attunements and teaching, I can now direct Reiki healing energies to myself and to others! And so can any other like-minded individual once they are attuned! I am so grateful to you Lynda! - Ron

When I asked my Reiki I & II student Ron R. for a testimonial I wasn't sure what he would say. After all, learning traitional Usui Reiki from a long distance can seem counter-intuitive. But in the same way that Reiki healing can be sent over long distances so can attunements, and then the support for practice is easy to follow up on.

Ron has done really well and has helped me refine my teaching. I hope that some of you will decide to train with me as well.

Safety and Security for Elders

My father is 81 years old and lives alone. I worry about him falling or having an accident at home and not being able to get to a phone to call for help, so I started doing some research into a Medical Alarm system for him.

It doesn't make sense to have separate systems for intruder alerts and medical alerts, so a good combination monitoring system was important to me. In my research I discovered Brickhouse Alert, which combines and easy to carry and use Medical Alarm with an intruder alert, inactivity alert, and fall alert to give comprehensive coverage.

The Medical Alarm can be activated with a simple press of a button, and I have asked my dad to wear the small button unit around his neck when he's at home. Hopefully we won't have to use it!

Reiki Helps Healthy Human Cells Grow

Imagine being a Western trained and oriented science professor and deciding to study energy healing. Imagine further that you approach the study from a skeptical position, pretty sure that you will find no effects of the Reiki. Gloria A. Gronowicz, a professor of surgery at University of Connecticut - New Haven, holding a Ph.D. in molecular biology from Columbia University, was in this exact position when she took on a 3 year long study financed by the National Institutes of Health center for complementary and alternative medicine, and published in the Journal of Orthopedic Research.

Her research focused on bone cells, specifically human bones affected by bone cancer.

Studying people is difficult, because the presence of a person could raise the patient’s spirits and ease his pain. So Gronowicz used cells in discarded bone chips, and from skin and tendons.

The cell cultures received two 10-minute treatments a week for two weeks.

One set of treatments was performed by people trained in reiki. The other set was carried out by untrained people.

When all of the hand waving was done, Gronowicz examined the cells.

The results showed that reiki had no effect on bone cancer cells, but that the process improved bone cell growth by a statistically significant percent. Skin and tendon cells also grew under the reiki regimen.

“We saw a dose-response curve,” Gronowicz said, an effect noted in tests of drugs and other conventional therapies.”The practice of energy medicine has been around for thousands of years,” she said. Most previous studies of reiki were small and “under-powered,” but did show a slight effect, she said.

Not surprisingly, other researchers seem to be steering clear of this work. Professor Gronowicz is actively looking for a research physicist now to work with her studying biofields and biofield healing.

“Are there receptors? There must be a biofield that affects health. Maybe I’ve lost it, but what if it’s true? That would represent a whole new avenue of medical treatment,” Gronowicz said.

Gronowicz has spent 25 years researching bones, and has published about 50 papers. The reiki paper has prompted doubt and scorn among some scientists, but she is not worried.

“I feel like I ought to be doing risky science at this point in my career. Science requires risks. I would urge others to do the same tests,” she said.

“I would like to spend the rest of my career working on this,” she said.

It is sad that in this day and age people are still shying away from anything Reiki or energy healing related. Reiki works people!

Good Food & Reiki Eases Arthritis Pain

Salad platterImage via Wikipedia

Yes, it's true! It looks like eating certain foods combined with a weekly session of Reiki healing eases the pain of arthritis.

Foods to avoid:

The foods most commonly found to worsen arthritis are wheat, corn, rye, sugar, caffeine, yeast, malt, dairy products, oranges, grapefruit, lemons and tomatoes. Meats most likely to provoke symptoms are bacon, pork, beef and lamb.

A number of foods may trigger joint pain in those with arthritis. Research shows that when these are avoided, about 70 per cent of sufferers report less pain and improved mobility.

Some are particularly sensitive to foods from the nightshade (Solanaceae) family. Commonly eaten nightshade foods include potatoes, tomatoes, aubergine, sweet peppers, paprika, cayenne and all other types of pepper (except black pepper).

Try to minimise your intake of vegetable oils rich in omega-6, such as sunflower oil, because these promote inflammation. Switch to olive oil for cooking, and macadamia nut oil or walnut oil for salad dressings.

Foods to eat:

Fruit and vegetables provide an array of antioxidants that reduce the rate at which cartilage breaks down, helping to slow the process of osteoarthritis. Antioxidants can also reduce inflammation and help combat rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and gout.

Apples and avocados are anti-inflammatory superfoods. Don't peel your apples - the skin contains five times more antioxidants than the flesh. Oily fish are a rich source of omega-3 essential fatty acids that oil the joints and damp down inflammation.

Research shows that omega-3 can reduce the long-term need for painkillers in those with joint problems. You should aim to eat oily fish such as salmon, sardines, herrings and mackerel two to four times a week. You can also take an omega-3 fish oil supplement.

Drink plenty of fluids - approximately three to five pints (two to three litres) - a day to maintain good hydration and a steady flow of nutrients to your joints. Choose from water, soups, tea and juices.

And about the REIKI

There are a number of therapies you can use to complement the orthodox treatment of arthritis. These include practitioner-led therapies such as Reiki, osteopathy and chiropractic.

Research suggests they help reduce chronic pain and stress. In one study, 82 people with osteoarthritis found pain intensity reduced during the six-week period they had weekly Reiki sessions.

Buy Organic Beauty Products

Since I strated working at Parrot Cay I have become much more conscious about product ingedients and much more interested in using organic botanical beauty products such as the revered Dr. Haushka skin care products.

These health and beauty products are difficult to find and price compare, but not with ShopWiki.com. ShopWiki is the only site that allows you to see every store on the web selling the items you want, whether they have paid for placement or not.

From Burt's Bees to heart rate monitors they have it all in an easy to read and search format.

Two More Distance Reiki Healing Methods

reiki catImage by anomalous4 via Flickr

Here are two more methods of distance reiki healing. I still prefer the invisible person method, but it's interesting to try others.

The tiny recipient inside the hands method

Call in the energy, draw or intend the symbols and distance symbol, and intend to channel distance healing to (name) in (location). You may also intend the energy reach a group of people, if you are sending to a list or a number of people at once.

Intend that a tiny version of the recipient(s) of the healing fit in the space between your palms as they are held facing each other, fingertips touching those of the opposite hand. You may “cup” your palms.

Intend the energy to be channeled to the recipient(s) in as much as they need it, for their greatest good and healing or for specific ailments as you/they need. Feel the energy flow between your hands, holding them this way as long as the energy flows, or until you feel the treatment is done.

Close.

The knee surrogate method
Do as the surrogate method, but instead of a doll, pillow or teddy bear, use your own knee as the surrogate to represent the intended recipient. The kneecap is the head, and the rest of the body follows down about to the middle of the thigh.

Have fun!

Reiki Music

OK, I admit to having a distinct dislike for most new age music, and that unfortunately includes most Reiki Music. Instead of using specific Reiki music when I am giving or receiving Reiki Healing, I tend instead to play music I and the client like. This can be classical, opera, or even an OM Yoga Mix. But my reiki healing music also is as likely to be Michelle Shocked, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, and even Led Zeppelin (yes, Reiki can be done to Zep!). I say that you should just find music you like and that your Reiki clients like and go with that.

Distance Reiki for Stroke Victim

I recently received some interesting feedback from my Reiki II student Ron regarding his sending Reiki using the Invisible Person method.

On 6/1/09 I was requested to send Reiki to a brain stroke victim who was also being sent a different form of healing just before me. The patient lives in Washington state. He is doing wonderfully, better than expected. The family is very happy! I am waiting for more feedback as I told the requester the time I had sent Reiki. I was attempting to separate the healing sent before the Reiki to determine what effect the Reiki may have had afterwards. Maybe they joined forces?

Now Reiki will always join forces with whatever other positive healing is happening, which is why it is so effective as a Complementary Therapy. But a few days later he received this.

Some specific feedback on the stroke patient after the Reiki:

"...George seemed to have less energy today, but the Dr... reported that his CT scan showed increased improvement from the last one."

Interesting stuff, isn't it? Is it the Reiki, the other treatments? To tell you the truth, as long as he is getting better I don't see that the question has meaning.

My Favorite Reiki Books

My first Reiki Master Teacher Patricia Duff once told me that she prefers to not read books about Reiki, as they tend to cloud the energy with other people's opinions. In my case I find that most books about Reiki are repetitive and written for such a general audience that I typically find nothing new and useful.

These three book, on the other hand, do a wonderful job of explaining and exploring Reiki in a way that is interesting and useful for Reiki students of all levels as well as Reiki Master teachers. Diane Stein's Essential Reiki: A Complete Guide to an Ancient Healing Art caused much controversy when it was published, as she was the first Reiki master to publish the Usui Reiki symbols that were always held in secret from the uninitiated. This was the first Reiki book I owned and I still find it useful for my own practice and for teaching. Diane's Essential Reiki Teaching Manual: A Companion Guide for Reiki Healers is a bit more technical, but in general has the same information on a faster track for Reiki Master Teachers.

Finally, no Reiki library is complete without The Original Reiki Handbook, Usui's notes and teachings on Reiki. Whether you use all the information here is irrelevant. If you work with Usui Reiki you should know your roots and this book has them.
